Most people have humble beginnings in business but what John Morris had in December of 1979 was pure innovation. He literally invented the Sports Bar, Legends his first venture is now referred to as the granddaddy of all Sports Bars. Complete with satellite and big screens it was the first of its kind in the United States. When the city called in regarding a re-development project John answered, Mum's the word.
Mum's was named after; you guessed it John's mother. With the city refocusing their building, John estblished Mum's Restaurant as the first fine dining restaurant on Pine Avenue. It's signature open kitchen and contemporary American cuisine menu made Mum's a landmark in Long Beach. Always up for the challenge John "Smooth" Morris, brought these two businesses together.
Smooth's Sports Grille brings fine dining to the big game in what has turned into Long Beach's premier hot spot. After twenty-five years of being at the forefront of business, John will tell you "Pioneering is everything it's made out to be, it sucks."
Active in the community, John Morris sits on the board of Downtown Long Beach Associates, Convention & Vistors Bureau, and the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club. John's involvement doesn't stop here, some of his community groups include For the Child, Rotary, and the Belmont Rugby Club are just some of his other interests. In addition to all these activities John, father of four still has time to be close with his family. It's all smooth saling from here.
